Research indicates that the poor are more vulnerable to illnesses because they usually live in unhygienic conditions, have low levels of health awareness, and fail to take preventive measures. We at PACODEF have a resolve to work with our people to improve their health condition mindful of Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Through our community led approach we are able to use our technical staff, Village based Facilitators (CBF) and Village Health Teams (VHT) to engage our target populations in awareness and skill transfer, which promote positive health practices and disease prevention.

We run a 24 hour Out Patient Department and maternity Centre with professional medical staff

The Centre offers the following services;

  • Counseling, diagnosis and treatment, minor surgery
  • Antenatal and postnatal care

Child wellness Centre (Robert Cooley Pediatric clinic)

The 2008 Human Development index indicate that 12% of Women in Uganda are Malnourished, 38% of children are underweight, 16% are stunted and 6 % are wasted. The report indicated that the most suffering children lived in rural areas and in families of the lowest income.

Here as well malnutrition has been an indicator of a bigger health and nutritional problem. It is against this background that PACODEF established a Child Wellness Centre that operates from Monday to Friday (8 Hrs) with the following broad activities:

  • Mobilization, identification and registration of malnourished and other vulnerable children for enrollment into the nutrition program
  • Feeding of Malnourished children with nutritious food
  • Training on nutrition, hygiene and sanitation including knowledge on basic health, nutrition, childcare and development.
  • Promotion of Moringa growing and usage as a nutrition supplement.
  • Promotion of ‘nutrition kitchen garden’ to grow a variety of vegetables.
  • Growth monitoring, including, health check-up, deworming, treatment and referrals
  • Early childhood care and education
  • Home care outreach for mothers who cannot bring children to the centre
