With a 24 hour outpatient and a maternity wing, this health Centre is a blessing to the People of Papoli and neighboring villages. Since it’s opening in 2013 the facility built with support from the family of Jay and Janice Jester through our donors; Village Partners International-VPI to provide basic affordable health care to the people within its catchment area has already achieved this objective. The health Centre has a functional laboratory for conducting various common tests, Outpatient and maternity wing.
Health camps and outreaches are conducted by the health centre in various areas of Magola Sub County. With over 300 monthly clients mostly at the Out Patient Clinic and over 50 admissions per month (number less due to inadequate space) being admitted to two rooms; nurses have no specified space to rest during night shifts, the facility is visibly stretched and hence resource mobilization plans especially for male and female wards are in place.
The facility recently partnered with Mariestopes Uganda in providing free focused antenatal care services, safe deliveries and postnatal services and to a larger extent has reduced costs associated to maternity services in its catchment area in addition to reduced maternal and infant mortalities. However the partnership has also led to a swell in maternity attendance and this has not spared the infrastructure which was initially meant to accommodate a lower number of clients, now has to cater for up to 70 clients monthly. The facility is currently mobilizing resources and seeking for support from partners and donors in the expansion of the maternity to better accommodate the ever increasing number of mothers.
The health centre also runs a health insurance scheme aimed at providing equitable and accessible health services even to those with no resources and are not able to pay a minimal charge. Through our different health insurance plans, we have been able to put about 3,000 community members to our different insurance schemes with 1,500 vulnerable community members including widows, orphans and elderly benefiting from a donor support Scheme (Miracle Medicine).
We also run individual/self sponsored membership, group/organization supported membership and household supported membership, all with very flexible payment mode.
